I Release It

A couple of weeks ago I shared a more palatable statement on social media claiming maybe 2021 will be my year to get justice, and it was shared, because it was more palatable, because it made people feel like they had done something, and as I typed the words they felt hollow and false, and then I came back more honest, and that seemed to solely be appreciated by other survivors, not the folks who treat us as exhibits, and I’ve thought about this, I’ve carried this in a way I did not acknowledge for months, and now I put it down.

I release it.

I release all ties to those who amplify me when it serves their image.

I release all ties to those who held me as a trauma trophy, as an unserved charity case.

I release all ties to those who do not value my humanity.

I release it.

I am free.
